Newsletters
In preparation for the Star Teacher project, students will select one of the newsletter formats from the Microsoft Publisher Catalog. They will create a generic newsletter using pre-written text from the curriculum. We will identify the various parts of a newletter, practice the Publisher skills to import text, and practice writing clever subheadings for their articles.. Students will also take pictures of their star teacher in several poses, teaching at the whiteboard, standing with a group of students, etc., to incorporate into the Star Teacher newletter.

Self-Guided Tour of the Web
As you have seen from the "F-Pattern" article, visitors to the web read the first few lines of a page and then continue down the page scanning it for key words in an f-pattern.

  1. Select three text-intensive sites that you normally visit. Visit them again and observe how you read the pages. Do you follow the f-pattern? Write the site names here. ___________________ __________________ _________________
  2. Find a site that provides essential information in the top two lines. Write the name of the site here.________________
  3. Find a site that breaks the reading pattern rule. Is it confusing? If it breaks the rule, but clearly communicates with the user, what technique was used to justify breaking the rule? Write the name of the site here. _______________________
